Healing in Nature

2013. 07. 24~09. 23 / Special Exhibition Hall Ⅰ

Healing in Nature_poster

The humanity has been making history through repeating labor and rest. Taking a rest recharges the energy for work. Our ancestors also knew to take a break from leading a busy life by leaving the house to travel, dipping their feet in cool water or relaxing under the shade of a tree enjoying nature.

This special exhibition intends to create an opportunity to gain one's composure in a hectic routine and to consider a physical rest as well as a spiritual rest. By introducing various folk objects containing symbols and imageries of nature and contemporary work based on tradition, it tries to open up a new horizon in the folk exhibition. The exhibition consists of the following parts.

A visitor become the main character to go sightseeing the Geumgangsan mountain standing up
Part 1: In the Shade Listening to a Birdsong in a Wisp of Breeze

To experience sceneries and sounds of nature sitting down
Part 2: Wearing a Summer Jacket, Holding a Fan and Taking off a Hat

To drift off into a dream lying down
Part 3: A Midsummer Night's Dream, Getting Away from the World

The exhibition space is designed not only for viewing but also as a resting place through an experience and rest. Visitors are encouraged to become a traveler walking through nature, an owner of the main floored hall to take a nap and to forget our bustling life.

As visitors leave the exhibition, hopefully they could find their forgotten selves and realize the true nature of a rest and be healed in body and mind.

Part 1: In the Shade Listening to a Birdsong in a Wisp of Breeze
Leaning a tired body to the cold stone in a shade listening to a birdsong in a wisp of breeze I open my sleepy eyes and there is a sack on my shoulders and a pipe in my mouth Rubbing the watery eyes from the smoke, away visible for certain is the Geumgangsan mountain It must be the valleys Hoe Am wrote and the beautiful scenic haven of the Gwandong region Smoking a long pipe and merrily traveling the scenic peak and valley All worries of the world disappear like smoke and forget the world as if becoming an immortal

Part 2: Wearing a Summer Jacket, Holding a Fan and Taking Off a Hat
I turn my head towards the sound of go pieces hitting the board Gone is the scenery and two idling friends are playing a game of go My daughter-in-law wearing a calico shirt and a blue ramie skirt ironed for me to wear A summer jacket, holding a fan and taking off a hat and I watch absent-minded friends play Leaves shaking in the wind and the sunshine get me to play a zither not being envious of the scenery in a dream Lighting a smoke to ward off mosquitoes and watching the night sky inspire me to write a poem A summer night with a bamboo pillow, falling asleep alone does not make me lonely

Part 3: A Midsummer Night's Dream, Getting Away from the World
In the night sky stars sparkle like embedded jewels A crane suddenly flies by across the night sky A flutter beckons me and I follow mindlessly Inside a straw roof house, an old man playing a zither welcomes me
