Since the women in the house was in charge of making clothings for rest of the family, one of the important skills required of them was sewing. Women learned sewing from their mother and practiced hard to improve their skills. They were also taught how to colorfully embroider to decorate clothes, blankets, pillows, and folding screens. The ones with special skills used different colored threads to embroider flowers and various geometric patterns on household items and norigae (ornaments for women) to wish their family health and happiness.
